"Writing the West" weekend:
Saturday, April 26th, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, Dr. Richard Etulain will present his Oregon Council for the Humanities Chautauqua program, "Wallace Stegner:  Wise Man of the American West".  Wallace Stegner (1908-1993) is often described as a superlative Western author and thinker.  Stegner won a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award for his fiction, and wide critical and popular attention for his nonfiction.  He is regularly named as one of the leading spokesmen for conservation.  Richard Etulain, who studied and interviewed Stegner, as well as wrote with him, deals with the man's major contributions and raises probing questions about his career as a Westerner, public intellectual, and wilderness defender.

Following Dr. Etulain's talk, there will be a reception for Dr. Etulain, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.   Refreshments will be provided, and Dr. Etalain's books will be available for purchase and signing.

Sunday, April 27, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, Dr. Etulain will return to discuss "Writing the West".  This will be an open discussion of Western literture, Western history, and his life and work in the area of Western liturature.

All events are free and open to the public.  Everyone is encouraged to read Stegner's and Etulain's works and ask questions of Dr. Etulain at all events.

We have Wii for grownups, too!  Join us the first Thursday of each month in the Bromley room from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm and try out Wii bowling, tennis and all the gaming equipment.  Who knows, you might be the next "Guitar Hero"!

Do you like to hear about and talk about books? Come to Books and Bags, the Friends of the Library sponsored book discussion group.  Books and Bags meets the third Tuesday of each month from 11:30 until 1 PM in the Library's large public meeting room, the Bromley Room.  Bring a sack lunch (that's the "Bags" part!), and enjoy a friendly discussion of favorite books and authors.

Don't forget StoryTimes!
Tuesdays and Fridays, at 10:30 AM, year-round, the library's Youth Services department presents storytimes for preschoolers and their families.  With songs, fingerplays, crafts, and of course, wonderful books selected especially for the preschool age, Storytime is a great way to spend a morning.  Visitors are always welcome, so bring the grandkids when they are in town.
