Story Time for Grown Ups  Love a good story?  The library invites readers to the scene of the crime, the edge of adventure and timeless realms of wonder, the first Friday of every month at 12:00 noon in the Bromley Room, for entertaining short fiction for adults, read aloud by library staff.   Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis.  Bring your lunch or your knitting or both!
 
Best Books of 2011  Join Library staff Thursday March 1st at 2:00 pm in the Bromley Room as they present reviews of the best non-fiction and fiction works of 2011.  
  
Oregon Favorites  Join us Saturday, March 24th at 2:00 pm in the Bromley Room as popular Oregon author Bill Sullivan tells us about his latest book, Oregon Favorites:Trails and Tales.  For armchair travelers and adventurers alike, his book details 62 of his favorite places in Oregon, from a ski adventure at Crater Lake to a wildflower hike in the Columbia Gorge and a hidden hot spring in the desert.

Free Tax Help  Tax time is here and once again AARP will provide free tax prepation service for senior citizens and low-income taxpayers.  This service will be available every Monday and Wednesday (including holidays) on a first-come first-served basis from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from February 1, 2012, through April 16, 2012, in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library.  This service will also be available on two Saturdays:  February 25, 2012, and April 14, 2012.  The Library is located at 1460 Ninth Street.  Please bring your return from last year (including 2010 tax documents), a photo id, and social security card in addition to your 2011 tax information.  If you are driving please park in the lot across the street from the Cross Road Church (formerly Siuslaw Valley Christian Church).
 
Get a Pass!  Have you ever wanted to visit the Cascade Raptor Center in Eugene, but felt like you couldn't afford the admission fees?  Now you can check out a family visitor's pass at the Siuslaw Public Library that has an admission value of up to $25.00.  The library has three passes, and each pass may be checked out for up to one week, for a one time use to visit the Raptor Center at no cost.  Ask staff at the public service desk for more information and assistance in checking out a pass.

On Display
 
This month artist J Cardon displays her acrylic paintings of New Zealand on the lobby walls, and in the display case, along with library staff member Yvonne Pappagallo, artifacts, books, jewelry, photos and other items from travels in New Zealand.  Inside the main library, the photographs of world travelers Vicki Sieber-Benson and Jim Buch are on display on the Brubaker Family Gallery wall as well as on the back walls of the library.  The inside display cases by the Brubaker Gallery feature ceramics by local potters Sandy Brown, Steve Ann Dunn, Julie Ellingson, Beth Habian, Geraldine McMahan, Kathy Shamey and Vicki Sieber-Benson.  The display case by the Conference Room features a display about Ayn Rand from the collection of Hollis de Henseler. 
 
Friends of the Library
The monthly meeting of the Friends of the Library will be at 11:00 am,  Thursday, February 23rd, in the Bromley Room at the main branch.  All members are invited to attend, along with anyone interested in becoming a member.

Join us for Preschool Storytimes every Tuesday and Friday at 10:30 in the main branch children's area.  Enjoy stories, songs, fingerplays, crafts, and meeting lots of new friends!
